A celebration of the human spirit: The Penguin Project is a national program that partners with local communities to produce a full, staged musical featuring a cast of children with developmental disabilities.
Words Players Theatre invites you to a community informational meeting about bringing The Penguin Project to Rochester. We'll talk about what the program is, and what - who -- needs to be in place, here, to move forward with a possible 2017 production.
BACKGROUND INFO: The Penguin Project organizes theatrical productions in which “all of the roles are filled by children with developmental disabilities. They are joined on stage by their ‘peer mentors,’ a group of children the same age without disabilities, who have volunteered to work with them side-by-side and guide them through months of rehearsals and the final production. By creating unrestricted access to the performing arts, The Penguin Project demonstrates that the special challenges of a disability need not handicap a child’s ability to participate in life’s experiences.”
