Ages 10 & up
Instructor: Donna Driscoll
We'll continue exploring creative writing together (although we'd love to have new faces!) each week. Last year, we looked at a variety of genres (poetry, memoir, short fiction) and elements of writing (characterization, point of view, setting) as ways to connect with ourselves and each other in writing. We'll continue this route, this year looking at established literature as our models. We'll continue to do some direct imitation and also use the literature as inspiration. We'll do a bit more reading outside of class this year, but we'll keep it manageable. As before, we'll look at answering the essential question: What touches you and why? To our answer, let's add other voices' answers to the conversation, some long gone. As before, be ready to share what you're reading and listening to.
*We'll plan to meet at the library (or somewhere) on the Saturdays of Breakfast Theatre (Oct. 15, Nov. 19, Dec. 17).
An additional note: We met on Saturday mornings last year and that worked well. However, some students and parents have wondered if a weekday would be an option. We'll talk about that at the first meeting.
