About Words Players

Short history of Words Players

Words Players began in the Spring of 2004. Students in the homeschool community participated in two productions: The Sign on Rosie's Door, for students ages 5 to 12, a play loosely based on the book by Maurice Sendak, and a modern retelling of Aristophanes' The Birds, for students ages 12 to 18. Both productions were presented as a double bill on two evenings at Peace United Church of Christ in Rochester. Tickets were free and dessert was offered for a donation. From the very beginning, students were heavily involved in the theatrical work that went into each production, not just acting. Students helped direct, create sets and costumes, and promote the productions.
